Overview
As a contractor, I collaborated with Forza X1, a developer of electric sport boats focused on sustainable recreational boating, on the early concept and design phase of their electric pontoon boat project announced in October 2022 as the FX3 electric pontoon model. This project aimed to introduce a modern, fully electric take on the popular pontoon category by leveraging Forza’s innovative fiberglass hull platform from the FX1 electric sport boat series. The design repurposed the FX1’s integrated engineering—optimized for battery placement, center of gravity, electrical systems, and performance—to create a versatile, eco-friendly pontoon suitable for fishing, family recreation, touring, and day-cruising. Targeting the rapidly growing pontoon market (20% of U.S. recreational boating, projected to exceed $4 billion by 2028), the boat emphasized silent, emission-free operation, serene on-water experiences, and adaptability for multiple uses while maintaining high performance and premium features.
Contribution I played a key role in the early concept development and design of the Forza electric pontoon (FX3/Joule). Forza engaged me specifically to assist their engineers in creating a modern electric version of the pontoon boat, drawing on my extensive experience designing pontoon and fiberglass boats for leading manufacturers. This included producing early concept renderings to visualize the sleek, contemporary styling, deck layout, and integration of electric systems on the adapted fiberglass hull. I contributed to defining the overall aesthetic and functional flow, ensuring the design leveraged the FX1 platform’s engineering for battery placement, balance, and premium fit. My input focused on bridging traditional pontoon usability with innovative electric features, supporting Forza’s mission for sustainable recreational boating.
Outcome The Forza electric pontoon project (announced as FX3 in 2022) generated significant industry interest as an early innovator in electric pontoons, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable boating solutions. While the specific model has evolved, my involvement in the conceptual phase helped shape the vision for a fiberglass-based electric pontoon that promotes environmental sustainability and quieter water experiences. The initiative reinforced Forza’s position as a forward-thinking electric boat developer and highlighted the potential for electric power in the massive pontoon market. This project demonstrates my expertise in emerging marine technologies, collaborative design with engineering teams, , and conceptual renderings for innovative, market-disrupting watercraft—bridging traditional pontoon design with sustainable electric propulsion.
