Regal 28 Express Cruiser

Overview
As a design engineer at Regal Boats, I led the redesign of the Regal 28 Express Cruiser, aiming to create the premier trailer able express cruiser in its class. This 28-foot vessel combines luxury, performance, and practicality, making it ideal for weekend getaways, day cruising, and extended outings on the water. The project involved a complete overhaul to incorporate enhanced features, superior hull dynamics, and a fresh aesthetic that aligns with Regal’s reputation for innovative marine design. Launched in 2012 and continually refined, the 28 Express stands out for its spacious layout, high-end amenities, and yacht-certified capacity, all while maintaining a beam of 8’6″ for easy trailering and storage.
Contribution
I was responsible for creating detailed profile and plan renderings, upholstery drawings, and the final 3D tooling model for all fiberglass components. This included modeling the deck, hull, cabin top, and smaller parts like hatches and consoles. the deck and select small parts were machined as plugs using a 6-axis CNC router, which were then used to create production molds. This method guaranteed consistent quality and fit for fiberglass parts, reducing assembly time and enhancing structural integrity.
Outcome
The Regal 28 Express has been praised for its elegant yet robust design, earning acclaim in reviews for packing big-boat features into a pocket cruiser. It has become a bestseller in Regal’s lineup, appealing to boaters who value trailering convenience without sacrificing luxury. This project showcases my expertise in marine design, from concept to production, contributing to Regal’s innovation in the express cruiser market.
